Hi, Fokko. Would you provide more details of the purpose and impact for the bump? It seems the jira ticket is not so informative, neither.

They are still working on a fix: Homebrew/homebrew-core#35796
But with Thrift 0.11.0 is should work as well: brew install thrift.

I would like to update the Thrift dependency to 0.12.0 of Parquet. In my effort to make Parquet forward compatible for JDK11 #596, I stumbled upon some issues with letting the CI pass. One of them that we still rely, in both the CI and documentation, on Thrift 0.9.3 (released October 2015). Unfortunately, this version of Thrift won't compile under Java11:
After updating the thrift-maven plugin #600, I was able to successfully run against Thrift 0.12.0.
