[Help wanted to cross-reference]: Miscellaneous iOS issues

Hello all! My name is Trystan Oakley and our team at www.OpenPowerlifting.org have recently transitioned over to Zulip from Slack as your project is more in line with our views and practices. I just wanted to stop in and let you know of a few bugs and issues I have experienced on the iOS app.

• On the "Streams" tab there is "subscribed" and "all streams". When a new stream is made and I go to "all streams" to subscribe to it it by pressing the button next to the new stream it never goes over to my "subscribed" side and when I check the "all streams" tab later the buttons I pressed to subscribe are slid back to off.

• [Believed to be solved by Update stream settings page for new server-level API #3449] When I go to settings and go to notifications and turn on "notifications when offline" and "notifications when online" and "stream notifications" the only notifications I get are when someone tags me by username. The only way I started receiving notifications is when I went into each stream and turned on notifications.

• [Tracked in https://github.com/Viewing uploaded files fails, or requires logging in again #3303] When someone sends a video in chat it takes me to a page to log in to zulip instead of showing me the video.

• I am not sure if it is just my imagination or not but the autocorrect seems to not work as well in the app. It is hit or miss for correcting things.

• When you "swipe right" to go back it doesn't work unless you swipe from the very left of the screen it does not work. This is a mild inconvenience and it may be intentional but I figured that I should mention it.

• [Tracked in https://github.com/compose: Hide software keyboard on drag down. #2617] When I reply in a stream I can not swipe down to get out of the keyboard. I have to leave the stream to get it to go away.

• When replying in a stream, the topic I am replying in can not be changed in the message box. Like if it says "general" at the top and I click on it it lets me edit it, delete it, or make a new topic but it does not provide me with a selectable list of currently used topics. To get to a current topic I have to click in the top right hand corner of the screen and choose a topic there. Again, this isn't a main issue I just felt like I should mention it.

• [Tracked in Feature request: delete topics #3806] I also do not appear to have the ability to delete topics on my phone.

• [Discussed in Never get notifications (when recently used webapp, or app is in background) #3659] Notifications have serious lag. When someone messages I sometimes don't get a notification on my phone for 5 or so minutes after they messaged.

• When I mute a channel it still counts all of the unread messages from that channel and does not go away until I "mark all as read"

• [Tracked in https://github.com/[iOS] Clear notifications when messages are read on desktop/web #3119] When I get a notification from Zulip of a message and go into the app and read it all the notifications stay on my iphone notifications instead of being cleared when I open the app and read them as they should.

• [Tracked in Editing a message outside of the valid edit window should show a helpful message. #2902] When attempting to edit text, I often get the error message "Failed to edit text" with the message "API". I am not really sure what this means

I will update here as I find new things by using the iOS app. If there is any way for me to potentially help I would be more than welcome. I do not have programming experience, I run the social media for Open Powerlifting, but just let me know. Thank you.

I just realized that I probably should have split this up into 11 different issues but I wasn't sure what would be easiest for you or if there were already other issues for the problems I mentioned.

Hi @TrystanOakley, thanks for this valuable list of improvements we can make! I've gone ahead and changed it from a numbered list into a checklist — not of problems that have been resolved, necessarily, but which ones we know have corresponding issues in GitHub. We'll close this only when we know they're all being tracked in separate issues, or have been resolved. So, contributors are welcome to double-check whether issues exist, and if not, to create new issues.

(It's true that it's easier to make diagnoses when the issues are separated, but it's also true that filing separate issues takes a lot of time, which is a barrier to a large number of unrelated issues getting written down in the first place. So this format is fine, and thanks for the feedback! 🙂)
