Variable for content width on hero pages #2055

It would be awesome if there was a variable to change the width of pages that contain hero images. Normal "content" pages can be sized with:
$contentWidth
What problem does this feature solve?
Allows for more flexible hero pages.
What does the proposed API look like?
Add a variable heroContentWidth (or similar name)
How should this be implemented in your opinion?
