Not sure if this is supposed to work like this, but it's definitely surprising behavior and not documented. There is an example of a query like this on Spring Data JDBC's GitHub page: @Query("SELECT * FROM person WHERE lastname = :lastname").

If entity Address would be part of the Person aggregate then I would get exception like: org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: The column name address_person_id was not found in this ResultSet. So apparently the object mapping logic expects specific aliases for the columns

Affects: 1.1.4 (Moore SR4)

I agree that we need to clarify things in this area.

But to address this specific issue: Could you clarify the domain model you have?
What is the exact relation ship between Person and Address?

Yes, this is confusing.

Spring Data JDBC expects 1:1 relations to be joined with the table for the referencing entity and all those columns to be prefixed with the name of the reference + _.

So in your case this select should work:

SELECT p.*, a.person_id as adress_person_id, a.city as address_city FROM person p LEFT OUTER JOIN Address a ON p.id = a.person_id WHERE lastname = :lastname"

Yes, that would work, but it's also quite verbose and error prone when the domain model changes. In cases like this I'm currently using a workaround like repository.findById(repository.findIdByName())

Query derivation is limited to properties that can be used in a WHERE clause without using joins.

I have understood that query derivation is the process of generating the query from the repository method name. This Jira issue is not about that. The property that is used in the WHERE clause of my example does not require joins. Query derivation added in 2.0.0 should remove the need for workarounds like repository.findById(repository.findIdByName()), but I can't use it yet as DATAJDBC-547 breaks many of my deletes

Sorry, my bad. I missed the point that this ticket handles the reading side. address_person_id confused me in the sense that I read this ticket as creating a criteria on address.person.id
