This issue exists in the latest npm version

• I am using the latest npm

Current Behavior

npm install https://github.com/janosh/matterviz.git --verbose

If I open https://codeload.github.com/janosh/matterviz/tar.gz/df78c4843f75ac233a7157cbbdf3f88b1d0c9ca4 in browser, I can download the file without connection refused.

Expected Behavior

Package from github installed

Steps To Reproduce

Try to npm install as above

Environment

• npm: 11.6.0
• Node.js: v22.13.0
• OS Name: WSL
• System Model Name:
• npm config:
