I spent a while building from source to avoid Homebrew, and only after learned there was an installer! This edit points macOS users to the installer :)

looking at the releases page for serialosc it seems as if the most up to date installer for macOS is 1.4.1 which is from 2018. it’s not clear if recent grids and arcs would be detected correctly.

it is probably worth considering adding additional information to guide folks to homebrew for newer devices and current versions of macOS. not sure what caveats would apply for the older installer build

The installer works only for legacy devices at this point--- quite a few changes have gone in since we abandoned using the installer system. Unfortunately the alternative to homebrew for the newest macos version is to compile from source.

Thanks for the note about the serialosc releases page.
