Note: CI fails due to recent changes in libmongoc, which removed calc_release_version.py from the r1.30 stable branch. I'll handle the update to 1.30.3 along with removal of deprecated tooling before we can merge this PR. |

The new return types added to the BSON interfaces are the more annoying. I think the required change should be mentioned in the upgrade guide.
