Extend list of dev containers

Is it possible to extend the list shown in "Add Development Container Definition Files.." with a custom dev container not listed vscode-dev-containers repository?
I have a custom .devcontainer.json yet, however this appears to be tied to the project in which it is located only, but not generally available in the container list.
