Ideally, the change would trigger an automatic update.

VS doesn't auto-update when cpp.hint changes, but as soon as an edit or save occurs to a source file then it will update.

There is a related issue in which cpp.hint changes are never triggering a re-tag parser, so the user has to either edit the file or Reset IntelliSense Database. See the discussion at #7248 . This additional issue probably has a separate fix so might be split into a different bug, i.e. this 2nd issue still repros after doing a Reload Window (which fixes the 1st issue).
