Simple Product marked Sale changes configurable product price for non-sale configurations #3584

We have created several configurable products with their configurations. Each configuration consists of a size and a color. The configurable product is displayed catalog and search. The individual simple products are not individually visible. We have marked each of the simple product items on sale (a color option) using the "sale" product attribute. When we go to the configurable product display, the whole item is marked down (despite being marked "no" for sale). The individual color configuration which we do desire to be marked down is marked down but the the price change is in addition to what the configurable product price. It seems as if there is a double markdown on the simple product configurations we selected and a single markdown on the configurable product (despite selecting no for sale in the configurable product).
