Update PyPi

It is really great to see IMASpy on github!

It would be a massive benefit to the community if IMASpy + DD could be installed by pip install imaspy

There is an old pypi package, but it is very stale: https://pypi.org/project/imaspy/

Related suggestions are about making documentation open, (thinking of the open community we want to enable that don't have IO accounts)

• Put the Sphinx onto readthedocs
• Add a quickstart example of reading an IMAS HDF5 dataset with just IMASpy and DD already on github (or are there still deps on other parts of AL to do this?)
• Clarify if you want issues opened here, and if this supercedes JIRA.
• Clarify if / when you want PRs here (if so I guess tests will have to migrate first)

As you can imagine, we're still in the process of setting things up but being able to pip install the DD and IMAS-Python (old name for IMASPy) is in the pipeline and being actively worked on, same for documentation on readthedocs.
Whilst we will still tackle the existing issues on JIRA, feel free to raise new ones here.
Regarding PRs, these are very welcome but for anything major, probably best to wait until we've made a first release on GitHub which properly handles all the renaming and set up all the associated testing.

• clarification of the use of issues/PRs is tackled in the https://github.com/iterorganization/imas-python/blob/develop/CONTRIBUTING.md (information will be propagated in the next newsletter)
• 5min quickstart already exists in the doc (anything related to HDF5 relies on imas-core)

Would definitely agree that packaging this library and distributing it on Pypi would be a very valuable step towards portability and availability to the community.

Would also recommend:

• conda/mamba packaging and distribution to anaconda.org on the conda-forge channel (using a github feedstock)
• using a pyproject.toml for easy handling by other package managers like poetry and uv

Also, if help is needed, I'm pretty sure there are several of us would could provide some support to do that packaging.

Hi Didier,

The PyPI pipeline is ready and it just needs to wait for the next release before it got on https://pypi.org/project/imas-python/
In the meantime, the last develop based version can be found in https://test.pypi.org/project/imas-python/.

Indeed if some users would prefer conda/mamba packaging, help would be appreciated --> #24

ok thanks for the update @olivhoenen !

I'll have a look at the conda packaging when the Pypi pipeline works (automating the conda packaging requires the package to exist on Pypi first, since it grabs it from there)
