What should this feature add?
in #3323 I've made the uploads route accept an image type. @Kyle0654 suggests this is risky (i believe bc uploads are handled in a particular way - with some degree of distrust - but uploading to results allows foreign entities into the results which we handle with more trust).
the reason i changed it is to allow the canvas init/mask images to be uploaded to the intermediates area instead of uploads. uploads should be for user-provided images, and results for the outputs of processing, but these are more like parameters that are images instead of uploads or results.
perhaps we need another route for intermediates upload? or some other concept entirely.
