Support for other languages

I see there are efforts to support Java (#147 ) , Scala(#149 ) are being investigated. Have you considered multilspy?

From their description:

multilspy is a cross-platform library designed to simplify the process of creating language server clients to query and obtain results of various static analyses from a wide variety of language servers that communicate over the Language Server Protocol. It is easily extensible to support any language that has a Language Server and currently supports Java, Rust, C# and Python. We aim to continuously add support for more language servers and languages.

hello! thanks for sharing! it looks very promising indeed.

we haven't made much progress on java and scala to be honest. we spent quite a lot of time refactoring the code to have better separation between environment manager and dev server. we're a bit stuck with env management because there are so many options.

just for better understanding, how much do you care about devcontainers and all the docker isolation stuff? also, how important for you is that environments run locally? would you still use hide if it ran on cloud?

Nothing specific yet. Currently, when running Hide projects in Docker containers we have to take care of networking to avoid port collisions. With cloud instances (regardless of the provider) this problem would not exist because each project would have a separate network interface.

What really bothers me here is that instead of integrating new languages we have to spent lots of time figuring out container networking. So just wanted to check with you how important was it.

hey folks! sorry for the radio-silence. the end of year was pretty hectic but now i'm back!

@LakshyAAAgrawal thanks for offering your help! i think the main issue with integrating multilspy is that the corresponding part of hide is written in Go. but i'm leaning towards rewriting it in Python because it seems our community is a lot more comfortable with Python than Go. as a first step, i can create a plan for rewrite and then we can decide which part you could take. does that sound good?

ideally yes. from the top of my head, there's no functionality that is Go-specific. originally, i thought i would gain more productivity from using the native Docker SDK but i was wrong, it requires a lot of scaffolding to work properly.
