Regexp decreases performance, so there is more sense to rely on parse exceptions in that case. Refs: #157

It also addresses #156
This started out to just add valueToLiteral to the one scalar but then I decided to updates them all to NOT use deprecated methods which then affected all tests.
So it kinda got away on me BUT there are no deprecated methods being used in the code base now
