IDE starts but windows is flashing white and black

Yesterday, Arduino was working fine.
This morning I did flatpak update.
Instead of starting correctly, now on launching Arduino I get a window which flashes black and white very quickly .
Other Apps are unaffected.
I tried flatpak repair which did not help.
I uninstalled arduino and reinstalled it, which also did not help.
I tried moving my .arduino15 and .arduinoIDE folders away temporarily, and that did not help.

Arduino 2.3.4 zip downloaded directly from arduino github still works just fine.

I had the same issue with a debian testing based system too...

I was able to fix it by uninstalling it from the gnome software store, telling it to also delete all files

Thanks, but I dont use and have never used the gnome software store. So that seems irrelevant...

The equivalent of this is flatpak uninstall --delete-data cc.arduino.IDE2 HOWEVER check the ~/.var/app/cc.arduino.IDE2/ folder beforehand to check there isnt any saved files there (with a default app install with no permission modifications this should be a safe operation for this application)

you could also just try removing the cache directory from this (~/.var/app/cc.arduino.IDE2/) folder too.

Deleting the cache directory got it working, but doing so caused other breakage: when ArduinoIDE started up, the console showed

Thats not an error with the IDE but with the libraries you have installed.
It seems like the application is trying to install a library but has a conflicting library already installed.
Because the application is trying to install the builtin library i would remove the Ethernet library and try to reinstall the builtin library.
I'd then check to see if the ethernet library was installed again after.

Hi @ralphrmartin. Arduino IDE automatically installs some fundamental "built-in" libraries on the first run after a fresh installation. When you deleted the cache folder, you caused it to think it was the first run and try to install those libraries again.

Although it is unfortunately presented as an error, the failure to install version 2.0.2 of the Ethernet library due to you already having an installation of version 2.0.1 of the library is the intended behavior (because you might intentionally have a specific version of a library installed and not want for it to be updated automatically). So you can simply ignore this message.

The "built-in" libraries installation is only attempted once, so you won't see this again until such time as you might clear the cache folder once again.

I doscovered the problem is with this Direcotry: ~.var/app/cc.arduino.IDE2/config/arduino-ide/GPUCache
Just remove this directory and aplication is starting properly.
