Steps to reproduce

Element timeouts/has large delay when logging in to my server and using any features. This affects Element android only, as Element X, Fluffychat or PC clients seem to be working fine. Other users of our server report Element working for them just fine.

While troubleshooting, the issue seems to be related to networking somewhat.

  • Using mobile data (5g): Bug present.
  • Using Free WiFi at work (WiFi 5, MikroTik AP, unsure if related): Bug is NOT present, Element works fine
  • Using my WiFi at home (WiFi 6, TpLink Archer AX12, unsure if related): Bug present
  • Friend using mobile data: Bug present.
  • Friend using his WiFi at home (Ancient WiFi MikroTik router, unsure if related): Bug is NOT present, Element works fine

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Download Element
  2. Make sure you are using mobile data (5G in my case)
  3. Try to log in
  4. Observe delay, inability to connect or timeouts

For Element to work and connect
