Description

Filters added to a metric rule via the create rule API won't display in the create rule UI. If you want to edit the rule's filters through the UI, you must re-add them using the optional Filters field, which allows you to write KQL queries that filter the rule's definition (i.e., the rule query).

Thanks @nastasha-solomon -- just to clarify: "Filters added to a metric rule via the create rule API conditionally won't display"

In other words, this happens IF the API request uses the filterQuery parameter which accepts Elasticsearch query DSL JSON format for the specified filters. If the API request includes a KQL string via the filterQueryText parameter, there will be no problem (but this is probably not as likely for a REST API user, admittedly).

I don't know if this is worth trying to specify or if it will be impossible to do so clearly, but I wanted to bring it up.

Yeah, good point. It's not that filters added to a rule via the API and using the filterQuery and filterQueryText parameters won't display in the UI when editing a rule. It's only filters added using the filterQuery param and because they're not auto-translated from Elasticsearch query DSL to KQL (I think?).
