MAINT: test failures with pandas 2.0.0rc0 (pre-release)

I ran the testsuite with latest pandas pre-release because the 2.0.0 release is imminent. I found that all failures observed are related to heatmaps (19 failed, 508 passed, 2 xfailed in 120.39s (0:02:00)).

I'm just going to post the tail end of the test failure report, because this is trivial for developers to reproduce locally:
