enableFiltering with CellFilter

Hi,

More of a question than an issue perhaps,
but I'm working with a ui-grid where we want filtering on as a default with the default filtering to be contains (This was an easy fix, maybe something that could be configurable in the future?).

The problem we are currently facing are cellFilters defined on the grid with underlying Id's,
causing the filtering to be applied to the underlying value and not the displayed value.

This can be illustrated by enabling filtering on
201 - Edit feature

where it is only possible to filter on 1 / 2, not male or female

I've currently solved this with a perhaps naive approach, and added a piece of code in the runColumnFilter-function that overwrites the entered value with a $eval'd value using the filter,
requiring the $filter-service in the appScope.

This naturally felt right quite a hack, so I'm wondering if there is any easier solution that I've overlooked,
or if this is something that could be considered as a future feature?

On your comment about default filtering - I think this is configurable is it not? We do it in the tutorial.

It would be good to alter the filtering logic to compute and use the filtered value, this isn't something we currently do.

If I haven't misunderstood anything, it is configurable on a per column basis,
but in our case we wanted to change the defaultCondition from being uiGridConstants.filter.STARTS_WITH
uiGridConstants.filter.CONTAINS.

This provided the expected behavior without having to resort to either wildcards and/or column-specific filters.

Ah, OK, so you want a global default rather than a per column default. Understand.

There are really two issues described here. This comment is in reference filtering/sorting on values with a cellFilter applied. I suggest a separate ticket for discussion of the global defaults.

Using the filtered value is an important feature. In my opinion it should be an option, not a default. Consider the following two cases:

1. sorting/filtering grouped rows. For example I have a "sum balance" column and want to filter for only groups with a balance of >$200.
2. Sorting/filtering formatted dates. Formatted dates are a really common one. Consider the extreme case where my formatting displays only the day of the week. Then I want to filter to look at all dates which occurred on a Monday.

My thought on how to accomplish this is a new method on the Grid class, which is similar to getCellValue, but would be something like "getDisplayedValue(row, col)". This method would use the getCellValue method to retreive the value, then get any filters from the column, and return the value with filters applied.

The rowSorter and rowSearcher would then need to be modified to look at the options and determine which of the methods to use for retrieving the value.

At this point, this is an implementation detail, bit I think it is also important to be able to use both options on the same column. For example, on a date column I want a input which uses the formatted value, and second filter which uses a datepicker and uses the actual Date object.
