Thanks @yuanjianz. Most of these changes look good to me. @topleo who developed the pnetcdf functionality could review the other WRF-GC history diagnostics code. Once the code is reviewed it can be pulled into the development repository (this PR will be closed) for inclusion in a future release. |

Those edits are needed for successful compilation over GCC 11.3.1 and OpenMPI 4.1.7 on WashU Compute2.
