Thank you @featuriz for the PR. Unfortunately, we can't merge this in v1 because it is a breaking change. But we have removed the annotations for v2 #303
The root of this problem stems from an upstream change in either doctrine/annotations or doctrine/doctrineBundle - although I'm still trying to narrow it down to see what exactly the problem is. But, as I work out the problem and solution for v1 users - I'll keep everyone updated in #287
