It's about to be removed in an effort to make less assumptions about the structuring of annotations, but it still makes sense to apply it here, so we vendor the old version.
Since the change in the tweaks lined up for base, we need to adjust how annotations are handled in styledmarkup.jl.

Once again, I'd just be pushing these commits I could, without this pointless
indirection, but I can't.
