Building HLS on Mac OS

Hi,

Is it possible to share commands how to build hls? Based on this doc i have noticed that Plutus uses custom HLS https://github.com/input-output-hk/plutus/blob/2368a8cde7d7588b7f61bf02fccc7494c7b4ee4f/doc/plutus/tutorials/troubleshooting.rst.

On MacOS there is currently the following issue: haskell/haskell-language-server#1160

I managed to open Plutus code from nix-shell in VS Code. I have added custom path for haskell-language-server in nix, however I am getting the error that HLS crashed 5 times.

I wanted to build plutus HLS with the dynamic flags, however i don't know if that is possible.

I think the HLS in the nix-shell should work okay on macos? It's not built statically, so I don't think that can be the issue. Ar eyou sure you're not using a HLS that you installed yourself?

I followed the guide and used the command which haskell-language-server then i pasted this path inside VS Code Haskell plugin for the HLS path, afterwards i get that hls has crashed. If i don't modify this path then i get the error ghcide compiled against GHC 8.10.2 but currently using 8.10.2.20201118

Besides VSCode I also have nvim/coc setup and i update my coc settings to this (instead of using wrapper), with no luck so far:

Getting the same issue: [coc.nvim] The "languageserver.haskell" server crashed 5 times in the last 3 minutes. The server will not be restarted.

If I run which haskell-language-server i get /nix/store/m3gxldkc28yabc86zhzpxhkdwwj9w3fi-haskell-language-server-exe-haskell-language-server-0.9.0.0/bin/haskell-language-server

Thanks @klemzy for pointing to that issue! The suggested workaround works on my machine. Could you check that it no longer crashes for you too?

@sjoerdvisscher Yes it's not crashing anymore. Thanks a lot for this! A noticed another error (i am part of pioneers program and we have some sample code): error.txt

If I add this pragmas here: https://github.com/input-output-hk/plutus/blob/2368a8cde7d7588b7f61bf02fccc7494c7b4ee4f/doc/plutus/tutorials/troubleshooting.rst it does not help. Maybe any suggestions for this?

I have the same in all places where the plutus plugin is used. This can be suppressed with the -fdefer-plugin-errors ghc flag, but I haven't figured out how to apply this flag only for HLS.

@FrankC01 Hmm I don’t see it anymore either. But the workaround is to reduce the total size of your environment variables. I use direnv which creates 2 particularly large environment variables and if I set those to empty it works.
