2231A Serial Over USB

I was reading Issue #29 and @jbrown1234 mentioned that

Please note that in order to leverage remote communications with the 2231A, you MUST use the 2231A-001 accessory called out in the datasheet.

This matter will be raised with internal teams to determine the best path forward.

Was this ever addressed or does the 2231A still require the -001 accessory to use the serial over USB?

I was also looking for details on this.
In case it helps, the back panel serial port is connected to USART1 of a STM32F103C8T6 MCU.
I didn't want to tear down the whole box, so measurements were quick and dirty. It looks pins 1, 2, 3 are used (CD, RX, TX) and of course 5(GND). Pin 1 seems to have a 1.8k pull down resistor so most likely it needs an external pull up of a certain value to detect the dongle.
