Use marks to call commands in lua

I have this function in my lua keybinds file.( I'm just experimenting with lua in nvim), but i get this error...

Why does the mark not work ? I am calling it in visual mode with lines selected.

I think the '< and '> marks are only updated after exiting Visual mode, so you have to return to Normal mode before running the command.
