Correct use of dynamic resources

I'm trying to understand how VS Code agent can be told how to access a resource.

My server has a dynamic resource template for a uri results://scanning/{id} and my tool which scans returns a result text along the lines of

"The resource has been created as "results://scanning/b3dbd2dc-9a7d-4130-93c6-a5bbe469042c" and is available using the embedded resource URI.\n"+
"You MUST use the embedded resource URI to get the results of the scan and DO NOT assume the contents of the file.\n"+
"The ID and Secerity attributes are important, so should be included in the output summary to the user.\n"+
"The section of the output that has the relevant information is the Report object."

The agent in VSCode runs the scan, gets the URI and tells me its been given it but reports it doesn't know how to use it.

An example of the response after the scan is

Now looking at the MCP resource URI: results://scanning/b3dbd2dc-9a7d-4130-93c6-a5bbe469042c, this should contain the scan results. 
I see from the tool response that I need to use the MCP resource endpoint to access it, but I'm not seeing how to directly query that resource. 
Could you help me understand how to access the scan results from the MCP resource?

Clearly something wrong in my understanding or approach but can anyone help set me straight?

I think maybe I have my answer - VSCode only supports tools maybe?

Yeah, unfortunately, not a lot of apps, actually support more than just tools at the moment even though the spec was designed to make much more possible
