Environment details

  • OS type and version:
  • Python version: 3.8.5 (also errored with 3.8.4)
  • pip version: 20.1.1
  • google-cloud-storage version: 1.30.0 (issue does not occur with 1.29.0)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Try to build a dockerfile containing
FROM python:3-alpine

RUN pip3 install google-cloud-storage
  1. It will fail with errors including
      unable to execute 'gcc': No such file or directory
      error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

Minimal dockerfile to reproduce

FROM python:3-alpine

RUN pip3 install google-cloud-storage
