Is it possible to extract information about the changes made to the rootfs from the overlay backing host file?

We would like to enable filesystem snapshotting with overlay2, but in order to do so, we would need to reconstruct the sandboxee's filesystem state from the change-file since changes made to the rootfs are not propagated to the host filesystem.
