proxy change path doesn't work for me

This simple proxy works:

app.use('/api', createProxyMiddleware({
    target: 'https://xyzdomain.com',
    logLevel: 'debug',
    changeOrigin: true,
    secure: false
}));

This is the configuration for changed path :

app.use('/api', createProxyMiddleware({
    target: 'https://xyzdomain.com/api/v1/app',
    logLevel: 'debug',
    changeOrigin: true,
    secure: false
}));

Doing a curl yields a 404

curl localhost:3000/api/collection/resource

[HPM] GET /api/collection/resource -> https://xyzdomain.com/api/v1/app

Any idea what is wrong?

User error - I was simply looking at the wrong version of the doc.
