Based on PyQt6 code (#66).
Reimplementing the functionality directly from @kadiwa4 's #50, but without the class change.
The creation of a SplitImage class for split, start and reset images is great to reduce ton of code complexity, and duplication. But I've kept the changes to this PR minimal.
This code can definitely be simplified, but I would like to do that in a separate PR, with all changes merged, because of all the incoming conflicts.
