OG-Core modeling priorities

With 6 open PRs and 40 issues at the moment -- plus upcoming modeling work in different areas -- I wanted to start a discussion of what modeling enhancements to prioritize. Separate from work on various country calibrations, this discussion will highlight enhancements of the core theory.

Categorizing these by near term future modeling applications (with my assessment of importance and effort to complete):

CLEWS-OG integration for PHL (deadline January 12, 2026)

• Issue Add minimum consumptions c_min_i #982, this would allow for more realistic and interesting distributional analysis of changes in energy costs (Priority: High, Effort: Low)
• Discussion Modeling trade #977, CLEWS has trade flows for resources and this would allow OG-Core to speak to how those trade flows would respond to economic conditions (Priority: Medium, Effort: High)
• Discussion Intermediate goods in the production function #976, relates to trade and would help capture effects of taxes/regulation on intermediate inputs (Priority: Low, Effort: High)

OG-ETH workshop (deadline: likely late January/early February 2026)

• Issue Add minimum consumptions c_min_i #982, this would allow for more realistic and interesting distributional analysis of relative changes in prices of goods through VAT or excise tax adjustments, subsidies (Priority: High, Effort: Low)
• Issue Allow tax function parameters to vary by J #1078, would allow modeling to capture the large fraction of the population not subject to income taxes (Priority: High, Effort: Low)
• Issue Bug in computing the pre-time-path population #1070 (and PR Better handle the pre-time path population distribution #1073), the large changes from year to year in the ETH population raised the underlying issue to being with (Priority: High, Effort: Medium)
• Discussion Modeling trade #977, trade and export policies are important to the region (Priority: Medium, Effort: High)
• Discussion Intermediate goods in the production function #976, relates to trade and would help capture effects of taxes on intermediate inputs (Priority: Low, Effort: High)
• Issue Bug: Points System crashes with ValueError due to p.retire being a list (plus subsequent TypingError) #1075 and Issue Defined Benefits pension system not handling parameters object sizes correctly #1014, we need to be able to use all other specified pension systems (Priority: Medium, Effort: Medium)
• Issue Update to platform specific dask schedulers example run scripts #1051, its important for workshop participants to have decent run times (Priority: High, Effort: Medium)
