Timeline loses place when clicking link to a message #21138

Steps to reproduce
- In your backlog in room 1, see a matrix.to link to a message (which is in a private room I'm not a member of)
- Click the link (join room 2)
- Go back to room 1 and see that timeline has now jumped to newest messages and I've lost my place
Outcome
What did you expect?
Timeline remembers my place as it would do when navigating using the left panel between two rooms
What happened instead?
Timeline lost my place and jumped to newest messages
